A Unified Niche Relationship

I know I need to improve the monetization of my sites in more traditional ways. In order to do this, I feel like I need to generate some unified relationship. In other words, put sites together in such a way to funnel them into expert status on a particular subject or subjects. I feel like I should be making all of my sites focus on a single set of unified goals in order for them to be as profitable as possible.

I wonder if this will indeed make them more profitable. I also wonder if I will be needing to drop some sites in order to make this happen. What do you all think?
