Why did US soldiers go to Afghanistan in the first place? Why are US soldiers in Iraq? I sure thought it was to bring freedom to that part of the world. President Bush even talked about the lack of religious freedom in Afghanistan as one of his reasons to send US troops. It sure made me gung ho about the whole operation, but look at this. An Afghan convert to Christianity is preparing to be sentenced to death for his faith.
The most important freedom one has is the freedom to worship God as he pleases. When a government takes it away, it loses all moral authority to govern. This is what the Afghan Government does, a government propped up by US Aid and US soldiers. Why defend a government that will not defend the rights of its citizens? I am not sure what is the line of thinking in Washington, DC but I hope this gets squashed very quickly or I sure hope the US pulls troops out of Afghanistan in protest.
Oh yeah and don’t have him let go by technicality, the Afghan government has suggested that the convert must be crazy for rejecting Islam. Well, personally, I think it is a perfectly sane thing to do. Let the man be, let him worship as he desires and Muslims throughout the world should be happy that Christians do not practice the same slavery.
