I have been thinking about one thing quite a bit over the last several days. It is the idea that we are happiest when we create, but when we are destroying things, we are not nearly as happy. Sure we might get temporary joy, but it soon withers away when we begin to understand the reality of things around us and what we have done. True happiness come from creation, not destruction.
I look at our lives and how we handle things. On two opposite spectrums, we see that creators build things, destroyers consume things. I guess we all have to be destroyers at least part of the time, but to be a creator and get the maximum joy, we need to be net creators. That means we need to consume more than we destroy.
This hit me very plainly. I see a lot of people out there trying to do their best for the environment or society in general. They understand this equation and have decided to reduce their destruction to the lowest possible amount, but they are ignoring the other side of the equation and that is creation. They may even be net destroyers because in the process of trying to reduce their destruction, they have reduced their creation.
As I work through these ideas, I will surely have more thoughts on the matter and hopefully have more to share about this line of thinking. As with all thoughts, they need reflection. To this end, I am starting to do some article writing on various subjects.
