I normally don’t post about Music. I am not into a lot of modern music, like pop music, modern rock music, alternative music or even country music. I’m just not into the new stuff. I like older music, especially folk songs. Lately, I have discovered a Spanish group called Los Guaraguaos. They are from Venezuela and were popular in the 1970’s.

My Dream Project
September 12th, 2007 — Christianity, Louie's Best, Technology, Ubuntu
I think we all come across a dream project from time to time. A project we know can help people in many ways. It uses are expertise to attempt to make the world a little better and help people improve themselves. My dream project is something I have been toying with for awhile, but in the last few days, I have really solidified its details. It’s about bringing computer literacy education to the poorest members of society.
Why? I see a nephew of mine who has great talent with art. He can draw very well. He does it all on pen and paper. I got to thinking, he could be a very good graphical design artist if he just had the tools and training to put his art to a productive use. Instead, more than likely, he will be working in a manual labor job and never utilize his talents. I thought, if I could just train kids like him to put their talents to a productive use, I could improve their future outlook and their family’s outlook.
My dream project is to open a basic computer literacy center. The goal is to teach basic computer literacy and then identify the talents of disadvantaged teenagers. If these talents could be developed using computers, I would give them basic instruction to make sure this happens. Whether it’s graphical design, writing, programming or web design.
I believe that if you are unwilling to help make a change then you shouldn’t really be talking about change. With that in mind, I am now in the planning stages to see how this can happen. More than likely, I will begin seeking donations of old computers to put together the center. I am a firm believer in the Free and Open Source Software movement and I will be instructing as much as possible using FOSS.
More updates to follow.
Are you willing to be the answer to your prayers?
August 11th, 2007 — Christianity, Louie's Best
Are you willing to be the answer to your prayers? That’s a tough question for some, but it should also be the easiest to answer. So often we pray to God for Him to answer our prayers and help not only us but also friends, families, etc. How often are we willing to be used by God to answer people’s prayers?

Fight the Power

If you are reading this, you want to know more about me and this site. First off, my name is Louis. I am 36 years old and I am from Oregon in the US. After spending 11 years outside the US as a teacher and consultant, I am back in the US permanently.
During my time abroad, I saw many interesting and wonderful things. I also saw many things that hurt the inner part of my heart. It’s why I started this blog. It’s my chance to put together the funding needed to make important projects a reality. It is my firm belief that it is wrong to let feed only the souls of those in need. People need their temporal needs met as well.
I feel uncomfortable talking about my projects, because I prefer to spend my time making these projects a success in the areas of basic education, basic literacy, and job training. If you would like to know more, email me. You can find my email on the about page of this site.
One very public project that I took on was the TEFLWatch project. The goal of this project was simple, to help teachers get the information they need about teaching abroad.
Note: As of April 2008, I have turned it over to new project leaders. Why? Commercial interests do not appreciate free speech and will do anything they can to eliminate that free speech, even to the point of publicly making lies behind anonymous user names. I am proud of TEFLWatch’s accomplishments under my leadership. We were written about in international media outlets as diverse as the International Herald Tribune, GMA News, Sun Star, and the Rocky Mountain News, as well as many smaller news outlets.
Still want to know more, email me. I value my privacy, but I will happily do everything I can to help other people.
