A favorite quote of mine is “A pearl is like a marriage. It starts as a speck of irritating dust that eventually turns into a beautiful pearl.” That’s how true love blossoms, it may not be the most wonderful thing at the beginning but it grows and grows and soon you have a very beautiful pearl.I guess this begs the question, what if Gulf oysters didn’t give pearls and produced something like ball bearings instead.
I really can’t imagine giving a girl a ball bearing necklace or a ring with a ball bearing in it. I know my wife would get angry, but if she gave me one, I might actually wear it. Ball bearings are kind of cool and do have a nice look, in a mechanical kind of way. Heck, I think the picture on the left would make a real nice ring.
Luckily for my wife, oysters give us beautiful pearls. They not only give us a very delectable seafood dish, they also can give us a beautiful stone that last forever. Maybe that’s why I love Gulf oysters so much.
The Be Oyster Aware site has tons of great information on enjoying fresh oysters safely. Armed with the right information, you can enjoy fresh Gulf oysters year round.

Allegations are flying that Nestle, Hershey and Mars in Canada have been colluding together to fix the prices on chocolate. At least that’s what the allegations say. So why is this in the Funny News category? Because of where they met to exchange pricing information.
It turns out representatives of the three companies would meet at coffee shops and restaurants where they would exchange the pricing information needed to fix the wholesale prices of chocolate. The idea is to keep the price of chocolate high. I can just see it now…. meeting in the coffee shop:
“Dude have you got the goods?”
“Yes, I got the good stuff right here.”
“Ok dude, but don’t let anyone see you give me the envelop.”
With so many free and anonymous emails, why not just send an email? Why all the cloak and dagger just to fix the prices of chocolate. It sounds chocolate trade is like the drug trade.

On July 9th, 2007, Buenos Aires, Argentina got snow. It was the first time since 1918 that snow fell in Buenos Aires. I guess that means that we are under global warming, no more snow and cold weather equals global warming? I don’t know, but I like this video of the snow in Buenos Aires.

Ever wonder what school buses do on the weekend? Don’t need to wonder anymore after taking a look at this video of school bus race in Michigan. I don’t normally like car racing, but this is pretty cool. School buses aren’t known for their handling and going around a race track at high speeds is bound to cause some chills and spills.

I found this very interesting entry on being a free lance journalist abroad. Great advice, but after reading it, one paragraph sticks out in my mind and makes me ask myself a question. The question is just how many magazines and newspapers are there in the UK? I would have assumed there were a lot, but now I am left wondering.
Now read this paragraph:
Finally, buy a copy of every single magazine and newspaper published in the UK and pack them in your suitcases. There is no substitute for having the original copy in front of you to get a feel of a publication before writing that all important pitch.
It now appears that there are not nearly as many as I thought since it is possible to put a copy of every magazine and newspaper published in the UK in your suitcase. I am shocked to say the least.
