Project Progress

The hardest thing about doing projects is trying to avoid wasting time. It’s sometimes so difficult to keep projects going when other little day to day issues come up. Do I deal with the issue and neglect the project or trudge through on the project? Unfortunately, I’ve been neglecting my projects.

I wish I had an easy way to avoid doing this. Some of my projects are way overdue and it seems like there is no chance for me to catch up on them. In fact, it seems I am getting further behind every day. I suppose I could begin dedicating a day to finishing projects?

I have decided to do something better. I am not doing anymore writing jobs. The custom writing I have been doing has been cutting into my time to do other projects and that means less money in my pocket in the long run.

I guess I’ll see how this change goes.

Dealing with Deadlines

Lately I have been finding it very hard to deal with deadlines. I don’t know why things are so different over the last several weeks, but things that used to be so important are now a lot less important. This means that no matter how hard I try to re-prioritize things, I just can’t get it done.

The upshot is that I am starting to examine the way I have been prioritizing things. I am hoping that once I am able to do this and see how I have been handling projects, maybe I will see how I can better deal with the deadlines of those projects.

I think one casualty of this will be that I will be declining more projects that I previously would have been putting a lot more effort into. It also means that I am going to be focusing on just a few websites that I hope will become profitable. It’s a big leap of faith, but if I can do it, it might become very profitable for us. And hopefully worrying about deadlines will become a thing of the past.

Business Information Management

I am very impressed with the idea of managing business information in order to help make business decisions. I have found a lot of Enterprise Resource Planning software suites that can go a long way to managing just about every facet of information in a business from sales to inventory to manufacturing.

The problem is that these fail to capture the information resource needs of small businesses. Small businesses need solutions that are easy to implement without an IT department and give the flexibility and access to information that makes them successful.

I think it could be a profitable business to help businesses implement these kind of systems on a web based system and then handle all of the hosting for them. It is now something I am exploring for some local businesses.

End of an Era

It has been an interesting week. It seems like part of my life is excelling quite well, but part of my past, the work I did on another site, has been going through the wringer. I am tired of working tirelessly on a project that helps many other people and then it is put through the shredder by a couple of people with an axe to grind. That would be ok, but when others just sit by like a pack of ravenous dogs egging on the attack because they have nothing better to do with their life, that’s where I draw the line.

I have been making many important choices in my life over the course of the last few months and yesterday I made a small choice in a project that I have been doing for the last two years. I found that my involvement in this project was detracting from work I was doing in other areas and the help that I was able to give other people.

It always bad when you have to make choices on who you will help and who you will not help, but the choice has been made simple. I want to help people around the world with teaching issues. I have been quite successful at it, but recently a gentleman with what appears to me some mental condition has decided to attack me in every dreadful way possible. Pack of ravenous dogs have stood by watching and encouraging it. This really epitomizes the nature of foreign teachers in Thailand.

I have decided to no longer let these things get in the way of projects that need to be done. I am encouraged by words of wisdom that I have read that encourage me to pull away from this and I know I am doing the right thing. My main site that caters to a more international group will continue and the time all of this has been consuming will be devoted to bettering this.

When will I push this through? I assume it will be sometime in the next week or so.

Personal Projects for 2008 Part II

Back in Personal Projects for 2008 Part I, I talked about my upcoming projects in IT that I hoped to be able to complete in 2008. I know they are ambitious and for personal business projects in the works, the list is even more ambitious.

1. I want to finish my book of short stories and poetry that I have been writing for years. I will probably self publish and do the promo work myself. That’s why this is a business project.

2. As mentioned before, I want to have five websites in some new niches put up. I want to work on the forex, asset protection and international real estate niches. I think I might put up a hotel reservations site and a supporting site. I don’t know if they will take off, but it is an area I have considerable knowledge about.

3. I want to shed my unneeded and unused domains or put them to good use. I have about 25 domains that I am not using. That seems to be a waste of money, so I intend to either cancel the domain, give the domain away, or put something worthwhile on it. I figure one website per week.

4. I want to make sure all of my books are in order and look at a way of organizing my business.

I don’t know if I will accomplish these or not, but it is sure worth a try. We will see how it all goes down soon enough.
