North Dakota Student In New York

It’s been awhile since I visited New York. I actually think I’ve talked about my New York tours before, but I don’t think I told you about my fun trip in New York. It was actually kind of hilarious.

I didn’t know New York that well at the time, but I was in college, I was young, and most of all, I was naive. I was there in New York City with my 1986 Ford Escort and I was trying to find my way around town. I ended up in a particularly rough part of the city and I had to ask for directions from the homies on the block. It must have been funny seeing a North Dakota university student lost in New York City.

I eventually found a hotel and decided to check in. Imagine how naive I was when they asked me how many hours i wanted to rent it for. I was like, well, I don’t know how much sleep I need. Maybe 8 hours? The clerk looked at me very strangely. I don’t know if they had ever seen a naive North Dakota university student before.

The next day, I hit as many of the tourist spots as I could. I even took a ride out to the Statue of Liberty. I also had a chance to see the World Trade Centers, Wall Street and Times Square. After hearing about the Top of the Rock, I sure wish it would have been open when I was there, but I still had a great time.

When I think about the fun I had there, I wish I could go back and visit New York once again. This time I would get the help of Trusted Tours and Attractions and their online travel guides. There’s a lot of information available. Speaking of them, if you sign up for their travel enewsletter, you have a chance to win a $150 Magellan’s gift certificate. Sounds like a good deal.

Cabin Cuddler: Making Travel More Comfortable

Cabin_cuddlerI have always hated those airline pillows and blankets. They put them in those little plastic bags and make them look like they are clean, but really, how often do they ever clean them? I have long traveled with a travel blanket of my own for trips of any length, though it does get a bit bulky, but at least I know I have something hygienic. I am not affected at all by the news that airlines have quietly done away with these little dirty blankets and pillows.

The news that does affect me though is that in this void of no pillows and blankets has come the amazing Cabin Cuddler. It’s a 6 in 1 must have travel accessory. It’s a full length blanket that will keep all of your body comfortable and it even has a comfortable, inflatable pillow. It’s simply amazing.

It comes with a micro fleece tote bag so it’s easy to carry and when you are done using it, it folds up neatly. It’s a lot easier to carry than my current folded up big blanket that takes up half my carry on. This is a great little invention that can keep my travels hygienic and make my journeys more comfortable. It’s all good. Check the Cabin Cuddler out for yourself and see how you can travel comfortably.

Learn New Ideas At The Great American Seafood Cook Off

Wow, did you know the Great American Seafood Cook Off is coming soon? This Cook off is a celebration of the great domestic seafood dishes we know and love. There are so many great seafood dishes found throughout the US and this just celebrates them.

My favorite seafood dish will always be pink salmon. I love fresh baked pink salmon with just a hint of lemon juice. The aroma and flavor is so wonderful that it just defies description. I’d be interested to see even more recipes that use salmon. I admit that I am not a creative cook, but if I have a recipe to follow then I can try to make it work.

I am excited to see what kind of great dishes they’ll have in store at the cook off and hopefully, I will be able to get some great ideas to make my own cooking a bit more creative. One thing is for certain, the seafood is domestic so you know the quality of the seafood is great. I trust the quality and safety of domestic seafood and because of the positiveness of domestic seafood sustainability, I know it will always be available and safe.

So what is your favorite domestic seafood dish? Ready to learn some new ideas and make better seafood dishes?

Need A Passport?

If you are thinking about traveling abroad, then right now is the right time to think about getting your passport. Remember, it can take many weeks to get your passport back and not having it will ruin your vacation plans. It’s sometimes a great idea to go with a passport service. They can help you get your passport more quickly and with a lot less stress.

Is It Time To Go Abroad Again?

I am thinking about going abroad again and I have come across many sites that are eye opening and give a lot of pertinent information. I found a Paraguay site that seems to give a lot of information. I don’t know how dated the information is, but the information is useful none the less. The site can be found here. Here is some of the information that can be found there:

Cost of Living
It’s fairly inexpensive to live here. As in most all latino countries services (medical, mechanic, house worker, etc) are inexpensive and imported goods are more expensive (than in the USA). In my last house I paid $200/mo rent for a huge 3 bedroom house with an enormous lawn and shaded barbecue area and two servant quarters. And I paid $80/mo for my houseworker who worked 54 hours a week.

And this:

Is it hard to get citizenship there? It’s relatively easy. Actually much easier than in 1st world countries. They just don’t accept poor people or escaping banditos. See the requirement list on our Living-In-Asuncion-Details page. Legally you can stay here indefinitely as a tourist as long as you leave the country every 3 months (or pay a small fine before leaving if you’ve stayed more than 3 months).

In other searching, I came across a site today about internet in Paraguay. The site is in Spanish, but it isn’t too hard to navigate. You can find the page here. The costs seem quite high, US$55 for a 64k microwave link and a little less than US$30 for unlimited dial up. Prepaid internet seemed cheaper, but still on the high side. International calls seemed pretty cheap through a VOIP prepaid card so it looks like they do have a somewhat competitive communications infrastructure.

I do like finding out more information and this site has done that. It sure makes me think that I should take a look at Paraguay and what Paraguay has to offer. The only drawback I can see so far is the general dearth of information about Paraguay. Look forward to more information, coming soon.
