I have recently started looking into web development frameworks. These are applications that help you to quickly make complex web applications. They help you reduce the actually amount of programming code you write while producing sites that are robust and scalable.
I guess this is why I am looking into them. I would like to begin offering my web knowhow for projects. I am testing out CakePHP now as well as Django. My goal is to see which one can better fit my needs and my skills. I have to say that so far both of these frameworks are working out great!
Expect a report in a few weeks.

I have finally started work on a new project. It still is in its beginning phase so it’s not ready for public download yet, but I can’t stop gushing about it. It’s an RSS Content Generation Script for WordPress.
Basically it works by pulling in feeds from across the internet and making them into posts that can either be put inside a WordPress database or can be created as stand alone flat files. This will work alongside the new enhancements I am making to Category Magic. I know there are these type of scripts out there, but none have the simplicity that mine has.
I think that this will be a unique script and I am considering selling the script, but maybe I will just ask for donations for further development.

As always, I am brainstorming new business ideas. I sure wish I was better at implementation than I am at thinking up ideas. My newest idea is a school social networking site. This is an idea that first hit me when I first discovered BuddyPress.
BuddyPress is a set of tools that allow you to turn a WordPress MU install into a social networking site, combined with the BBPress forums and you end up with a full featured social networking site that is perfect for schools. I am hoping to have my first implementation up and going in a few weeks.

I am really falling in love with bbPress. It’s a forum software put out by the same people who gave you WordPress. I have used many different types of forum software on projects including phpBB2, phpBB3 and SMF and they all pale in comparison to the sheer flexibility of bbPress.
First off, adding hacks are easy. There is no fumbling through spaghetti code to find out where to stick some code only to find that you have stick different code in 20 different places just to get it to do what it should do in the first place. With bbPress, the hacks are called plugins. Usually all you need to do is upload the plugin and activate it. You might have to insert some code into the templates, but the template files are easy to understand and an easy to modify.
Which brings us to the templates. The templates are awesome. It’s easy to take one and modify it to get the exact look you want. I think bbPress themes are the easiest forum themes out there.
If you are looking for a forum software, I’d say look at bbPress. While it doesn’t have all of the features you might expect, it more than makes up for it with its ease of use and ease of customization.

I am finally getting a bit of final work done on several of my projects. It’s been a long slow road getting everything in order, but finally it looks like I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think I have made a good choice on how I’m implementing these projects.
First off, I had to decide on a broad niche and then come up with supporting sites. The goal is that each site is somewhat related to the other sites so that traffic is better utilized. I’ve decided to take an expat angle.
My broad is going to have sites about international real estate, forex trading, expat jobs, services for expats…I think you get the idea. I certainly don’t have first mover advantage, but I think I just might be able to see some success with it. In fact I am already seeing some success, I just need success to translate to all of them.
