New Theme

I really like this Copyblogger theme that I am using here. I have been using it on a couple of other sites I have. It’s a very clean theme and it just looks nice. It’s also optimized. That means it looks good for browser and search engines. That’s the good news about it.

Visa costs up, again

Once again the US State Department is increasing the cost of a non-immigrant visa. Non-immigrant visas will be increasing to $131 at the end of January. That means that anyone wanting to visit the US, even as a tourist, is going to be paying more, 31% more. This is the second increase 9/11 and just another case of extra. How does this affect Americans? Well, several countries, like Chile and Brazil, charge Americans a reciprocal fee. So in effect, Americans will be paying more for visas to these countries. Thanks you, Condi.

Microsoft stealing intellectual property?

It looks like a college in the Philippines is suing Microsoft claiming that they have stolen intellectual property. Wow, Microsoft, the bastion in the fight against piracy is guilty of being a pirate themselves? Tell me it ain’t so. I’ve got no love lost with Microsoft but it’s pretty apparent that they may be guilty looking at the evidence.

It turns out they are being sued by Southeastern College for 100 million pesos. They are being sued because they are accused of taking a book written by Southeastern College and putting their own name on the CD version of it. Ouch. Not good.

Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn Part II

(Continued from Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn Part I)The second part of the Cassini-Huygens Mission, the Huygens probe, separated from the Cassini spacecraft and descended into the Titan atmosphere on January 14th, 2005. The Huygens probe was the European Space Agency’s contribution to the mission and it was the first probe sent to probe the atmosphere and surface of another planet’s moon. As it descended through the orangish atmosphere, it collected reams of data that it relayed back to Earth. The data showed the atmosphere consisted of liquid methane and was not nearly as calm as astronomers had hoped. The Cassini Spacecraft, during a flyby on July 21, 2006, discovered the first methane/ethane lakes on the surface of Titan. These lakes ranged in size from 1/2 mile to nearly 60 miles across.
