Japan institutes new checks

It looks as if Japan is following through on a new checks on people entering Japan. Business Visitors and Tourists are fingerprinted and have their picture taken, much the same way that the US does for entering visitors. But this Japanese immigration exercise goes even further.

Japanese Immigration is taking the photos and fingerprinting Business visitors and tourists automatically. The pictures and fingerprints are sent directly to the central Japanese immigration department where the pictures and fingerprints are compared against a list of 800,000 terrorists or suspected terrorists. The new measures have already netted five visitors already.

Immigration authorities stopped five foreigners on arrival in Japan after new anti-terrorism measures including fingerprint and photo checks were introduced, the Justice Ministry said Wednesday.
