Ok, designers came up with a better option than trailers for people displaced by natural disasters. Instead of travel trailers, they designed cottages that provide a safe and comfortable place for people to stay in. These cottages are higher quality and more closely resemble a home than a trailer ever could.
Maybe that’s why cities like Bay St. Louis have dug in their feet so much on restricting people from putting them on property. They don’t want these low cost structures on the land. I guess they would rather have poor people without a place to live.
“The Mississippi cottage is a trailer — except that instead of coming in through the side, you come in through the front,” said Jim Thriffiley, president of the Bay St. Louis City Council, which has approved 69 applications for cottages and rejected many more. “We don’t want the stigma of these homes in our community.”
