Min Wage Up In Mexico

Mexico is raising their minimum wage again for 2008. It’s increasing to just over 50 pesos a day. Why am I posting about it? Because it is a woefully inadequate wage, but fortunately it is only applicable to the lowest of the low paying jobs. I know in Mexico City many rich have been fretting over the need to pay $300 to $400 a month for decent household help. It seems that increasing wages are putting a crimp on the middle class as they are not able to afford household help.

Maybe that’s because there are many other opportunities out there for household help. I don’t know if it is an accurate observation, but that’s what I see.
