The Changeover

It was a sad day when the TEFLWatch Forums, that for 2 years served as a service to teachers in need, closed. Many teachers were left without a place to discuss their negative experiences or get good advice about teaching abroad. It was with a lot of trepidation that they were closed down and the fact they closed down is testament to how evil a few trolls can be.

I know about it because I was an admin on TEFLWatch.

Thankfully, that has changed. A new team has come forward to run a new teachers site called TEFL School Reviews. You can visit their site to rate schools and you can visit their TEFL School Reviews forum to leave feedback on schools and issues facing teachers.

TEFLWatch vs the Trolls

As an update to the trolls on the net post, TEFLWatch, a site that helps teachers even the playing field against unscrupulous employers is under attack by some people who it appears are in the employ of a school. Since the anti-teacher brigade are unable to shut down the site, they have instead resorted to attacking the site by making claims that are filled with lies and deceit. I can only guess that the goal of this anti-teacher brigade is to hurt teachers. Luckily, a site in support of teachers and TEFLWatch has come out.

Fight the Power

If you are reading this, you want to know more about me and this site. First off, my name is Louis. I am 36 years old and I am from Oregon in the US. After spending 11 years outside the US as a teacher and consultant, I am back in the US permanently.

During my time abroad, I saw many interesting and wonderful things. I also saw many things that hurt the inner part of my heart. It’s why I started this blog. It’s my chance to put together the funding needed to make important projects a reality. It is my firm belief that it is wrong to let feed only the souls of those in need. People need their temporal needs met as well.

I feel uncomfortable talking about my projects, because I prefer to spend my time making these projects a success in the areas of basic education, basic literacy, and job training. If you would like to know more, email me. You can find my email on the about page of this site.

One very public project that I took on was the TEFLWatch project. The goal of this project was simple, to help teachers get the information they need about teaching abroad.

Note: As of April 2008, I have turned it over to new project leaders. Why? Commercial interests do not appreciate free speech and will do anything they can to eliminate that free speech, even to the point of publicly making lies behind anonymous user names. I am proud of TEFLWatch’s accomplishments under my leadership. We were written about in international media outlets as diverse as the International Herald Tribune, GMA News, Sun Star, and the Rocky Mountain News, as well as many smaller news outlets.

Still want to know more, email me. I value my privacy, but I will happily do everything I can to help other people.
