In the 1930’s, one of the most decorated Marines in US history came out against what looked to be an impending war in Europe. Smedley Butler traveled through the US on a lecture circuit that included, schools, churches, civic organizations and universities. He was one of the first to come out against the rise of a military-industrial complex. War is a Racket is just as valuable of a treatise now than it has ever been. In light of recent events, I really suggest a quick read. It’s not a long book and it reads easily. Your eyes will be opened.
