Ok, I have been snubbing Windows Vista for way too long. I have been listening to way too many of the negative words about Windows Vista and not checking it out myself. That was not being responsible.
I recently got a chance to check out Windows Vista in earnest at my mom’s house over 4th of July weekend. Windows Vista is a huge improvement over its predecessors, at least in terms of looks. There’s more eye candy than ever before. If you don’t believe me, use Windows Vista for a few days and then try going back to Windows XP. Of the three major operating systems, Windows Vista, Mac Whatever, and Linux, I’d say that Vista is as visually appealing as Linux and it blows the Mac out of the water.
Some people have complained about compatibility issues when using older programs with Vista, but you know what? I didn’t experience any problems whatsoever. I was able to use every program I use on a normal basis and they worked perfectly.
It’s true that it’s footprint was quite high in terms of memory requirements, but you know what? The three big operating systems all have large footprints so it’s not good to single out Windows Vista. The truth of the matter is that I didn’t experience any problems with excessive memory usage or a slow computer.
Now, I know most of you are Windows users. If you are a normal user, upgrading to Vista is the best way to improve your computing experience. It’s a lot more secure than previous Windows versions. The aero GUI is just plain awesome. Most of all, Windows Vista is designed to utilize advances in hardware. Using an older version of Windows on a modern computer is like putting a Mercedes engine into a very old Volkswagen bug. Sure it might work, but your are not getting the best computing experience possible.
If you are a Windows user, now is the time to look at upgrading.
